“There comes a point where we need to stop just pulling people out of the river. We need to go upstream and find out why they’re falling in.”
Preventing the Exploitation of Youth & Teens
The sexual exploitation and trafficking of youth has become one of the most pervasive ethical emergencies of our generation. Globally, the sex trafficking of minors has sadly become a massive industry in which it is estimated that 1.2 million minors are being trafficked for sex each year. Due to a high mortality rate globally for youth forced into prostitution as sex workers, there is an increasing demand for more and more underage sex workers. The prevalence of the internet and pornographic websites disguising the age of young victims has exacerbated the exploitation of youth to an all-time high.
A Gen Safe is a movement of people who dream of a better world. We believe that young people have an inalienable right to grow up happy and healthy, and the idea that any minor should be victimized in this way is appalling to all of us. Consider the following question: If you had the opportunity to identify a young person who is at risk of being sold, prevent that from happening, and protect that minor from entering the sex trade—would you do it?
That is exactly why A Gen Safe exists. We are a non-profit committed to preventing exploitation through education. We identify those youth and teens who are at risk of falling prey to exploitation and provide them with the safety awareness training, social refusal skills, and resources to avoid it.
This movement is fueled by people like you who generously support our preventive education initiatives. Thanks to supporters like you, and our partner organization Remember Nhu, we have effectively prevented over 15,000 youth from exploitation in 20 countries around the world.
